Drone and grid search deployed
Alderman JP Smith, Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, confirmed that teams arrived at the Worcester fire station before being deployed to the Botha wine farm alongside the Breede River. The man had been reported missing since Wednesday morning after the entire area flooded.
The City’s Aviation team immediately launched a drone, while Rescue technicians worked a grid search through the flooded terrain.
Operation handed over to SAPS
By Thursday morning, receding water levels assisted search efforts, but the missing person was not located. The area has now been handed over to the South African Police Service.
“The team has returned to the disaster centre, awaiting new deployment,” Smith said.
