The Constitutional Court agrees to hear parole appeal of Chris Hani’s killer, Janusz Walus, and is increasingly clear that Janusz will hit another attempt for freedom.
This comes after numerous attempts of failed parole bids.
Chris Hani, popularly known as anti-apartheid activist, who was then the leader of the South African Communist Party and chief of staff of uMkhonto we Sizwe, the armed wing of the African National Congress (ANC).
10 April 1993, was the day Chris Hani was assassinated while stepping out of his car unsuspecting, meanwhile stepping out at his home in Dawn Park, Boksburg, Hani was shot two bullets to the chest and an addition two sub-sonic bullets to the head, by radical right-wing Polish immigrant Janusz Walus.
The incident happened approximately 10:20 am, and died on the scene.
With many failed parole attempts by Janusz, the possibilities of him obtaining freedom become lesser by day, seeing South Africa’s highly sensitive history, before dawn of democracy 1994.
According to Walus’s lawyer Julian Knight, speaking to TimesLIVE on Monday, said, “they had filed an application, seeking to be heard by the apex court as far back as April but only last week received positive feedback from the court.”
As things stand, Walus’s matter will be heard by the Braamfontein-based court in February.
