KWAZULU-NATAL. – Die White Blazer is vanjaar aan as die hoogste toekenning by Durban Girls’ College aan Sophia Kidson oorhandig. Hierdie gesogte eerbewys word toegeken aan ’n leerling wat Honneurs in drie van die vier kategorieë – Akademie, Kultuur, Diens en Sport – behaal. Sedert 1994 is die toekenning nog net nege keer gemaak.
Die skool sê in ‘n sosialemediaplasing die toekenning is ‘n uitsonderlik prestasie. Sophia het haar onderskei deur haar sterk akademiese prestasies en deelname aan verskeie Olimpiades, waar sy onder meer ’n silwer toekenning in die Engelse Olimpiade ontvang het. Sy is ook diep betrokke by musiek en het Honneurs en Halfkleure verwerf, terwyl sy die skool op provinsiale vlak in die KZN Jeugorkes verteenwoordig het.
Benewens haar akademiese en kulturele betrokkenheid het sy Honneurs vir Diens ontvang, asook die Brons en Silwer Presidentstoekennings vir haar volgehoue gemeenskapsdiens. Sy het ook Spesiale Honneurs vir Debat behaal.
Die toekenning is deur Aradhana Durjan, ondervoorsitter van die Raad van Goewerneurs en ’n oudleerder van die klas van 1995 aan Sophia oorhandig. Sophia word beskryf as ’n leerling wat balans, toewyding en integriteit beliggaam en ’n ware rolmodel vir Durban Girls’ College is.

The White Blazer is the highest honour awarded at Durban Girls’ College. It is presented to a pupil who has achieved Honours in three of the four categories: Academics, Culture, Service, and Sport.
Since 1994, this prestigious award has been bestowed on only 9 pupils, with this year’s recipient demonstrating outstanding excellence across multiple spheres of school life.
A special congratulations to Sophia Kidson, Grade 12, on receiving the White Blazer. She has consistently demonstrated strong academic commitment, earning Honours for Academics and participating in multiple Olympiads across a range of subjects. Her achievements include a Silver Certificate in the English Olympiad, reflecting her critical thinking skills and language proficiency.
Sophia has demonstrated outstanding cultural involvement, earning Honours and Half Colours for Music. As a dedicated member of the school orchestra and the KZN Youth Orchestra, she has represented Durban Girls’ College at a provincial level, while her participation in the DGC Music Competition, ensemble performances, and Photography Club reflects her broad creative commitment and artistic dedication.
Sophia has earned Honours for Service, reflecting her strong sense of responsibility and commitment beyond the classroom. She has also received the Bronze and Silver President’s Awards for sustained service and perseverance, along with Special Honours for Debating, recognising her confident and distinguished representation of the school.
This pupil exemplifies balance, dedication and integrity. She approaches her commitments with maturity, combining academic rigour with cultural involvement and meaningful service. Her strong work ethic and willingness to contribute across school life make her a role model who truly embodies the values of Durban Girls’ College.
