Johannesburg, South Africa – On December 3, 2024, Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&Co.) marked a significant milestone: 30 years in South Africa. Levi’s® has grown to operate in over 34 stores nationwide since opening its first South African store in 1994. This has cemented its place at the heart of South Africa’s culture.

A journey of growth and innovation

Over the past three decades, the company has created numerous jobs and contributed to the local economy. “We’ve been part of many milestones alongside our fans, from Levi’s® Original Music to the Red for Life HIV/AIDS awareness program,” said Amisha Jain, SVP & Managing Director for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Levi’s® has always been about more than just jeans. It’s about identity, culture, and inclusivity. The brand has continuously evolved, expanding its product offerings to meet the changing needs of South African consumers.

Winning with women: Levi’s® Curvy Line

One of Levi’s® major success stories has been the growth of its Levi’s® Curvy collection, designed to cater to the diverse body types of South African women. This line, which promotes body positivity and self-acceptance, has seen a 42% increase in revenue this year. Nomzamo Mbatha, a popular South African actress, represents the line, empowering women to embrace their unique shapes and sizes.

The Levi’s® Curvy collection’s success is a testament to the brand’s understanding of the local market and its commitment to inclusivity. It has significantly increased Levi’s® share of women’s business in South Africa, showing how fashion can play a key role in shaping cultural narratives.

Innovating the shopping experience: Digital and physical growth

Levi’s® is also investing in its Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) strategy, offering a seamless shopping experience for its fans. Beyond its flagship stores in Sandton and Rosebank, which merge fashion, art, and culture, the brand has expanded its NextGen Indigo stores. These locations offer a modern shopping experience and demonstrate Levi’s® dedication to blending the physical and digital worlds.

The future is bright for Levi’s® in South Africa, as the company continues to enhance its relationship with customers, focusing on innovation, inclusivity, and cultural connection.

Looking ahead: A fan-obsessed future

As Levi’s® celebrates three decades in South Africa, the company remains committed to growth. Its ambition is clear: to become a $10 billion company globally and continue connecting with fans through iconic denim and accessories.

Levi Strauss & Co. is a global leader in denim, offering premium jeans, casual wear, and accessories. The company’s products are sold in over 110 countries, ensuring that the Levi’s® brand continues to inspire individuals worldwide.
