South Africa will hold its seventh local government elections on Wednesday 4 November 2026. President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the local government elections 2026 date at an extended Presidential Coordinating Council meeting in Ekurhuleni on 30 April, closing out the five-year term of councils elected in 2021.

The formal proclamation must still come from Cogta Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa, after which the voters roll closes. The Electoral Commission has confirmed its first national voter registration weekend for 20 and 21 June 2026.
