NSPCA fuel costs have hit a critical point after the May 2026 petrol increase, with the National Council of SPCAs warning that rising pump prices now threaten the reach of its inspectors. Its teams covered 109 680 kilometres across South Africa in the past four months alone.

Fuel now the biggest pressure on NSPCA inspectors
In a public appeal posted to its Facebook page, the NSPCA said every kilometre driven now costs more. Fuel has become the single biggest threat to how many animals its inspectors can reach. Across vast stretches of the country, the NSPCA is the only animal welfare body operating on the ground.
How the public can help keep NSPCA vehicles on the road
The organisation is appealing for public donations to keep its inspectors mobile. Contributions can be made through the NSPCA official donation page. Every rand donated translates directly into kilometres covered and animals reached.
