Operation Lockdown III arrests followed two intelligence-driven operations in the Western Cape on Wednesday night and the early hours of Thursday, 21 May 2026.

SAPS Western Cape said members acted on information about a firearm at an informal dwelling in Siqalo Informal Settlement, Phillipi, at around 22:45 on 20 May. A 39-year-old man was arrested after officers recovered a .38 Special revolver without a serial number and seven rounds of ammunition under his mattress. He faces charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court once charged.
In a second incident at around 00:00 on Thursday, Operation Lockdown III members arrested a 48-year-old woman in possession of 18 rounds of ammunition in Guquka Street, Town Two, Khayelitsha. She will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once charged.
