Social grant beneficiaries must move from a SASSA Gold Card to Black Card before 31 August 2026, after which Postbank says the old gold cards will stop working.
Why the switch matters
Postbank has confirmed the deadline will not be extended. Beneficiaries who do not replace their cards in time may be unable to withdraw money, pay at retailers or check balances. Any remaining balance transfers automatically to the new card, which works immediately on issue.
How to replace your card
The replacement is free. Beneficiaries can collect a Postbank Black Card at participating Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Spar stores, carrying a valid ID. Dial *120*355# to find the nearest site. Postbank warns that a genuine card shows Postbank branding, and officials will never ask for a PIN or OTP.
