R4 rifles and grenade launcher stolen from Tek Base in Pretoria

At least three R4 assault rifles and a grenade launcher have been stolen from Tek Base in Lyttelton, Pretoria, with the South African National Defence Force and the South African Police Service confirming the break-in on Wednesday 30 April 2026.

A SANDF member discovered the storeroom break-in on returning from an official funeral in Mafikeng, North West. Investigators believe the perimeter fence was cut and the security door forced open, and empty SANDF equipment boxes were recovered in nearby bushes. A case of business burglary has been opened, and the SANDF is verifying whether further items are missing.
