Johannesburg, 1 November 2024 – Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) has announced an exciting partnership with the South African Football Association (SAFA) to boost women’s football across the country. This collaboration aims to enhance the development of girls’ and women’s soccer at all levels.
National teams to benefit
As part of this partnership, all national women’s teams—including the under-20 Basetsana, under-17 Bantwana, and under-15 squads—will receive support through a fleet of Volkswagen vehicles. This includes models like the Caddy Kombi Maxi, Crafter 50 23-seater, Tiguan Allspace and T-Cross. These will help with travel and logistics for the teams.
Commitment to youth development
Niels Wichmann, Brand Head of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, expressed the company’s commitment to youth development through sports. “We are dedicated to ‘Moving People Forward’ and to supporting the growth of women’s soccer.” Wichmann added, “We want to empower the national women’s soccer teams to reach their full potential on the continent.”
Welcoming new partnerships
SAFA President Dr. Danny Jordaan welcomed Volkswagen to the SAFA partner family. “We need partners who can support women’s football from the grassroots level all the way to our national teams, including Banyana Banyana,” he noted. “This partnership will help us discover new talent and manage logistics effectively.”
Inspiring future generations
The goal of this collaboration is to support player development, create a positive community impact, and inspire young girls to pursue their dreams in football. With Volkswagen’s support, South African women’s soccer is set to grow and thrive, paving the way for future success in the sport.
