The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will host a community meeting on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, to update residents on the two pipe replacement projects underway in Oranjezicht and Gardens.
The meeting takes place from 18:00 to 19:30 at Haggie Hall, St Cyprian’s School, Gorge Road, Oranjezicht. Ward Councillor Francine Higham is hosting the session alongside the directorate.
Two active projects in Ward 77
The City confirmed two active pipe replacement projects in the area. The first, valued at R4.14 million, covers Upper Orange Street, Belmont Avenue and Montrose Avenue in Oranjezicht. Construction started on 19 January 2026 and was originally scheduled to finish on 29 May 2026.
The second, valued at R4.11 million, covers Myrtle Street, Jagersfontein Avenue and Lane in Oranjezicht. Construction began on 20 February 2026 and was scheduled for completion on 27 May 2026.
Both projects remain on track for practical completion by the end of May 2026, with June reserved for final wrap-up works and reinstatement of affected areas.
Corrective measures after resident concerns
The City said it is aware of resident concerns raised over the past three months, including unplanned water disruptions, failed temporary repairs, safety risks at open excavations and site management issues.
Following a recent site visit with the Ward Councillor, corrective measures being implemented include a revised approach to recharging the water system after shut-offs, improved hazard signage, better barricading at open excavations and clearer communication ahead of planned shut-offs.
Residents have also been urged to observe safe driving speeds, as the area remains an active construction site.
How to report issues
The City said formal service-related complaints, including water faults and billing queries, must be logged through official channels. Residents can use the City’s Call Centre on 0860 103 089, WhatsApp on 060 018 1505, SMS on 31373 or email [email protected]. Sewer faults and overflows should be reported through the same channels.
