“It is Child Protection Month… yet a 4-month-old baby is still sleeping in a cardboard box behind a nurses’ workstation. A reliable source alerted us to the heartbreaking situation of a baby whose mother died during childbirth. Since birth, this baby has reportedly never left the hospital ward. An approved Temporary Safe Care parent — already vetted and with space available — provided her details to both the nurses and the hospital social worker months ago. She has continued to follow up, willing and ready to take this baby into safety and care immediately.

Yet 4 months later… nothing. The stories keep changing:

• “We are waiting for the father.”

• “We are waiting for placement.”

• “We are waiting for the social worker.”

Meanwhile, according to a witness inside the hospital, this baby wore the same clothes for 9 consecutive days. No home. No stimulation. No consistent love. No family environment. Just a baby crying in a hospital ward while adults pass responsibility from one person to the next. How is this acceptable during Child Protection Month? How much longer must this innocent child wait for someone inside the system to care enough to take action? Every single day matters in the life of a baby. Bonding, touch, love, stimulation, safety — these are not luxuries. They are essential for healthy development. This baby deserves more than survival. This baby deserves a family, warmth, love, and protection.

We are calling on the relevant authorities to urgently intervene and place this child in safe care before more damage is done.
