According to SAPS Eastern Cape, members across all police stations in the district targeted both legal and illegal liquor outlets to enforce liquor licensing regulations. The operation was conducted with the Eastern Cape Liquor Board.

During the sweep, members visited 62 licensed premises and closed 14 illegal shebeens. Suspects were arrested for the illegal sale of liquor in terms of Section 19, five fines were issued for non-compliance, and a large quantity of liquor was confiscated.

SAPS said the operation forms part of its broader strategy to address the high levels of crime often linked to liquor outlets. Community members are urged to report illegal liquor outlets through the nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
