How to appeal a declined Sassa SRD application
Declined Sassa SRD applicants have 30 days from the date of decline to lodge an appeal. The Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) reviews each case independently from Sassa.

How to lodge an appeal
Appeals are submitted through the Department of Social Development portal at srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals. Applicants must select the month they are appealing and provide a reason for the decline. A separate appeal is required for each declined month.
Processing time and outcomes
ITSAA typically takes between 60 and 90 working days to process an appeal. If the appeal succeeds, payment for that month is released. If declined, the decision is final for that specific month.
What to do if your appeal fails
Applicants whose appeals are declined may reapply in the next SRD cycle if circumstances have changed. Sassa can be contacted on 0800 60 10 11 for the reason behind the decline. Legal Aid South Africa is available on 0800 110 110 for applicants who believe a factual error was made.
