SASSA SRD R370 banking details update: how to change yours

A SASSA SRD banking details update is one of the most common reasons approved applicants do not receive their R370 grant. The SRD portal allows you to switch between bank deposit and Cash Send, but the account on record must be in your own name.

How to update on the SRD portal

  1. Visit srd.sassa.gov.za.
  2. Choose the option to change your banking details.
  3. Enter your South African ID number.
  4. SASSA will send a secure link by SMS to the cellphone number registered to your application.
  5. Open the link, complete the banking details form and submit.
  6. Wait for an SMS confirming the change has been accepted.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using a bank account that is not in your own name. SASSA only pays into accounts that match the applicant’s ID.
  • Forgetting to update your cellphone number first if it has changed. The verification SMS will not arrive on the old number.
  • Changing details too close to a payment date. The change may only take effect from the next cycle.

Alternative if you do not have a bank account

The Cash Send option lets you collect your grant at participating retailers using an SMS code. For details on which retailers and how the code works, contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 or visit www.sassa.gov.za.
