Spier events will once again captivate audiences this December with Brett Bailey’s much-loved outdoor spectacle, A Summer Dream. Running from 12 to 14 December 2025, this magical family-friendly performance unfolds at Spier and invites audiences into a surreal, imaginative world filled with wonder and whimsy.
A magical outdoor performance under the stars
Now in its fourth year, A Summer Dream is once again directed by Brett Bailey and will be presented at the Spier amphitheatre for the first time. Set to an original score by Capetonian composer Jak Tomas, the show features a troupe of masked dancers, actors and musicians, along with moths, sheep, alligators, unicorns and occasional human beings.
“It’s like being inside a music video about a dream,” says Bailey, “or a dream about a music video, under the stars, with an incredible soundtrack.”
The creative team behind the dream
The creative team includes choreographer Natalie Fisher, movement and mask work by Jayne Batzofin, costume design by Brett Bailey and Enrique de Villiers, and lighting design by Lize-Marie Wait. Together, they bring a playful, surreal world to life through movement, sound and visual storytelling.
An evening of performance, wine and seasonal flavours
The one-hour show forms part of the wider Spier events programme and pairs beautifully with the estate’s award-winning wines and seasonal farm-to-table food. It is an experience that captures the essence of the Cape in summer and offers something for all ages.
For guests who have booked accordingly, the evening begins on the Werf at 6pm, where al fresco options range from farm picnics to braaied burgers. After dining, guests take a short walk to the amphitheatre, where the performance begins at 7:30pm.
