FREE STATE. – A student reportedly held onto a suspect vehicle’s door after being robbed of two cell phones in Universitas, Bloemfontein, on Sunday. He clung to the door of the dark gray Mazda 3 until he fell off. The vehicle has been located, but no arrests have been made yet.
Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli confirmed that the video circulating on social media is indeed of the student who was allegedly robbed. Around 06:00, the student was walking home when the suspect vehicle stopped next to him. The passenger reportedly got out, tripped the student, causing him to fall and drop his girlfriend’s cell phone from his pocket. The passenger tried to pick it up, but the student attempted to stop him. The driver then got out to assist his friend, and the student’s own cell phone fell out of his pocket as well. The two suspects fled with both phones.
“The 20-year-old victim held onto the driver’s door as the vehicle drove off but lost his grip and fell after a distance.”
Parkweg police were notified, and the suspect vehicle was later found in Kgotsong, Bloemfontein. No arrests have been made yet.
“A case of attempted murder and common robbery has been opened for further investigation. The victim was taken to the hospital for medical attention.”
