WESTERN CAPE. – Road repair work worth R262 million on approximately 60 km of provincial roads in the Breede River Municipality near Worcester has been completed.

The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure says the 16-month contract with Roadmac Surfacing Cape is being finalised today, with current road works already complete and the contractor finishing the last repair points. The roads affected include the R60, R43, DR1347, DR1379, Nuy Valley Road and DR1377. The roads were last resealed between 1995 and 2013 and required repair work including potholes, road bases, rutting, cracks and damaged road edges. Some sections were also damaged by flooding. As part of the project, a 2 km section of Nuy Valley Road was upgraded from a gravel road to a tar road, while drainage, erosion protection, fencing, guard rails and other road and bridge repair work was also completed.

According to the department, the project created 355 job opportunities and used 29 093 person-days of local labour. Goods and services worth R92.4 million were sourced from targeted enterprises, while 16 local enterprises were involved in the project. Eight emerging contractors also received subcontracts.
