GAUTENG. – Retshegofetse Sennelo van Hoërskool Krugersdorp het Saterdag in die teater van Netcare Sunward Park-hospitaal gesterf nadat hy en ‘n spanmaat in ‘n fratsongeluk op die krieketveld in mekaar vasgehardloop het. Dokters het tevergeefs probeer om inwendige bloeding te stop.
Mnr. Bailey van Hoërskool Krugersdorp het die nuus van Retshegofetse se dood op sosiale media gedeel. Retshegofetse en ‘n spanmaat het tydens ‘n krieketwedstryd teen Christian Brother College Boksburg in mekaar vasgehardloop. Een van die leerlinge was bewusteloos en die ander een het asemnood ervaar. Mediese beamptes aan diens het dadelik ‘n ambulans ontbied. Retshegofetse se hart het in die ambulans gaan staan en KPR is suksesvol toegepas, maar hy het daarna tydens ‘n noodoperasie gesterf.
Die ander speler is in ‘n Krugersdorp-hospitaal vir harsingskudding behandel en in sy ouers se sorg ontslaan.
Traumaberading word vandag aan leerlinge van die skool gebied.

It is with a broken heart that I have to announce that Retshegofetse Sennelo passed away yesterday after a freak accident occurred on the cricket field. He sustained a severe injury after colliding with a teammate at CBC Boksburg. Paramedics were on scene immediately, and Retshegofetse was taken to Netcare Sunward Park, whilst the other player was treated for concussion under his parents’ care and later released from hospital in Krugersdorp.
After undergoing an emergency operation at Sunward Park, the surgeons could not stop the internal bleeding, and Retshegofetse passed away in theatre last night. Our deepest condolences go out to Olga Sennelo, our SGB Chairperson, Gomolemo, his brother, all the family members, and KHS staff who were at the hospital with me. Our prayers go out to Retshegofetse’s beloved teammates and coaches, Sandile and Nene, who will need our unequivocal support along with his friends at school.
Thanks must go to the surgeon and medical staff at Netcare Sunward Park for everything they did in trying to save Retshegofetse’s life. Also, thank you to the Principal of CBC Boksburg, who was in touch with me all day yesterday. He also offered his sincere condolences to the Senello family. The School SBST has already been activated overnight, and grief counsellors will be on standby from Monday morning to assist the cricket players and any learners who are affected by this tragedy.
