The retired tax official from Pennsylvania set a Guinness world record in the process for the most movies watched by anyone in a cinema within one year. Guinness World Records announced his achievement on Friday, 30 October.
Hoskin watched an average of 3.3 movies per day from April 2024 to April 2025 at a Regal cinema in York Haven. He beat the previous record of 777 movies, set by American Zachariah Swope, by 430 movies.
To fit in so many movies, Hoskin had to plan his days carefully. He studied the cinema's programme in advance and tried to attend as many screenings as possible between early morning and midnight.
His love of movies made the challenge easier. He particularly enjoyed animated films and comedies, although he was also surprised by how many other films impressed him.
Among his favourites were The Wild Robot and Deadpool & Wolverine.
The cinema staff got to know him well later and even helped him figure out which movies were the shortest so he could fit more screenings into his day.
