The Ndlovu Youth Choir returns to Johannesburg for six concerts at Teatro, Montecasino from 30 July to 2 August 2026, before making their debut at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland.
The choir’s national tours have sold out every year since 2021. This year’s production, curated by founder and conductor Ralf Schmitt, showcases the spectacular diversity of South African musical genres and traditions, from Ghoema music and Miriam Makeba classics to Amapiano medleys and gospel.
The Performance
The ensemble comprises 15 choristers backed by a live three-piece band, delivering theatrical performances packed with choreography, infectious joy and world-class musicianship. The choir’s setlist ranges from timeless international hits including “Mbube (The Lion Sleeps Tonight)” and “Homeless” to their own version of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” personally endorsed by Queen drummer Roger Taylor.
The Ndlovu Youth Choir gained international recognition as the first choir to reach the finals of America’s Got Talent in 2019, with Simon Cowell declaring, “If I could bottle your energy, I’d drink it every day!”
Edinburgh Festival Debut
Following Johannesburg, the choir will stage “A Celebration of Africa,” a one-hour production at the Assembly Hall during the Edinburgh Festival from 6 to 30 August 2026.
