NSFAS status check 2026: how to track your application
Doing an NSFAS status check 2026 is the fastest way to confirm whether your funding has been approved, whether your institution has uploaded your registration data, and when your next allowance will be paid. Students at universities and TVET colleges should check at least once a week during the academic year.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme processed 893 847 applications for the 2026 academic year, of which 609 653 were approved by 6 January 2026, according to NSFAS Board Chairperson Dr Mugwena Maluleke. All funding decisions for 2026 were completed by 31 December 2025.
How to do an NSFAS status check 2026 online
Log in at my.nsfas.org.za with your South African ID number and password. On the dashboard, click Track Funding Progress to see your current status and the date it was last updated.
NSFAS status check 2026 by WhatsApp and USSD
If you cannot log in to the portal, NSFAS offers two alternative channels:
- WhatsApp: Save +27 78 519 8006, send your ID number, and follow the prompts.
- USSD: Dial *120*67327# from any phone and enter your ID number.
What the statuses mean
Common statuses on the myNSFAS dashboard include Application Submitted, Filtering, Validation, Evaluation, Provisionally Funded, Funding Eligible and Payments. Provisionally Funded usually converts to Funding Eligible within 7 to 14 days after your institution confirms registration.
