SASSA card lost or stolen 2026: how to replace it
If your SASSA card is lost or stolen, block it immediately and apply for a free replacement Postbank Black Card. With the Gold-to-Black Card migration deadline of 31 August 2026 approaching, card replacements are routine.
Step 1: Block your card
Call Postbank customer care on 0800 53 54 55 to block the card. This prevents anyone who finds or steals it from making withdrawals or purchases.
Step 2: If the card was stolen, open a SAPS case
Open a case at your nearest SAPS station and keep the case number. You will need it if there are unauthorised transactions to dispute.
Step 3: Apply for a replacement
The replacement is free. Visit any Postbank service point with your South African ID. According to Postbank’s own communications, no forms are required. The new Postbank Black Card is issued and activated on the spot, and any balance on the old card transfers automatically.
If unauthorised transactions occurred
Report any transactions you did not authorise to Postbank as soon as possible. Provide the SAPS case number, your card details, the dates the unauthorised transactions occurred and a written statement of what happened.
Important warning
Card replacement is free. Anyone asking you to pay for a SASSA card is running a scam. SASSA and Postbank will never ask for your PIN, OTP or banking password.
