How to report SASSA fraud in 2026
If you suspect grant fraud, identity theft on your SASSA account, or a scam targeting beneficiaries, reporting it through the correct channel is the difference between a quick fix and months of lost payments.
Official reporting channels
- SASSA toll-free: 0800 60 10 11
- SASSA email: [email protected]
- SASSA WhatsApp: 082 046 8553
- SIU whistleblower hotline: 0800 037 774
- South African Police Service (SAPS): nearest police station or 10111
- Presidential Hotline: 17737
When to report
- Someone has applied for a grant using your ID without your knowledge.
- Your grant has been redirected to a bank account you do not own.
- Someone has asked you to pay for a SASSA service. All SASSA services are free.
- You have been promised a “guaranteed approval” by a middleman.
- You have received an SMS or WhatsApp claiming you have won a SASSA “bonus” or “double payment”.
- A SASSA official or Postbank staff member or anyone else asks for your card PIN or OTP.
What to include in your report
- Your full name and ID number
- Your contact details
- The name and contact details of the suspected person or company, if known
- Dates, amounts and a clear description of what happened
- Any supporting evidence: SMSes, screenshots, bank statements
If money has already been taken
Open a case at your nearest SAPS station. Keep the case number. Then notify SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 and, where a Postbank card was involved, call Postbank on 0800 53 54 55.
