SASSA Postbank Black Card: how to swap your Gold Card by 31 August 2026

The SASSA Postbank Black Card migration deadline is 31 August 2026. According to Postbank’s official announcement of 24 April 2026, beneficiaries still holding a SASSA Gold Card after that date will lose access to their grant payments, because the old Gold Cards will be deactivated.

What is happening

Postbank announced that the final phase of the Gold-to-Black Card replacement drive began on 29 April 2026. SAnews reported on 23 April 2026 that around 600 000 beneficiaries still needed to switch at that point.

How to swap your card

The replacement is free of charge. Visit any Postbank service point with your South African ID or temporary ID. According to Postbank, no forms are required. The new card is activated when issued and any balance on the old Gold Card transfers automatically.

Find your nearest service point

Contact Postbank on 0800 53 54 55 or visit www.postbank.co.za for the nearest collection point. Cards can be collected in any province, regardless of where the grant was originally approved.

What happens after 31 August 2026

Postbank has said the Gold Cards will stop working. Your grant itself is not affected — the money is still paid into your Postbank account — but you will have no way to access it until you collect a Black Card.

Scam warnings

  • SASSA and Postbank will never ask for your PIN, OTP or banking password.
  • The card swap is free. Anyone asking for payment is running a scam.
  • Do not give your Gold Card to anyone. Destroy it yourself once you have collected the Black Card.
