The South African Social Security Agency has confirmed the Sassa May 2026 payment dates, with older persons paid on 5 May, disability grants on 6 May and child support and other grants from 7 May. The May payouts are the second monthly run to reflect the new grant amounts for the 2026/2027 financial year, following the increases announced in the February 2026 Budget.

When Sassa pays in May 2026

The staggered Sassa May 2026 payment dates are designed to manage congestion at ATMs, post offices and retail pay points. More than 18 million South Africans rely on social grants every month, and the rolling pay schedule keeps queues moving.

  • Older Persons Grant: Tuesday 5 May 2026
  • Disability Grant: Wednesday 6 May 2026
  • Child Support, Foster Care, Care Dependency and other grants: from Thursday 7 May 2026

Money paid into a Sassa Gold Card, a Postbank account or a commercial bank account stays in the account until withdrawn. Beneficiaries do not have to collect on the exact pay date.

Grant increases that apply from 1 April 2026

The May payment will reflect the new grant amounts that took effect on 1 April 2026. The Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant each rose by R80 to R2 400 per month, with an additional R20 top-up for older persons aged 75 and above. The Child Support Grant rose by R20 to R580 per month and the Foster Care Grant moved up to R1 250 per month.

Why e-life certification matters this month

Sassa has urged beneficiaries who have not yet completed e-life certification to do so before their May payment date. The agency uses biometric and digital life certification to confirm that beneficiaries are still eligible. Skipping the process can pause future payments until the system is updated.

If a payment does not reflect on the expected date, beneficiaries should first check the Sassa balance on their card or banking app, then contact the Sassa toll-free line on 0800 60 10 11 between 08:00 and 16:00 weekdays.

Frequently asked questions

What time does Sassa pay on payment days?

Most grants reflect from the early hours of the payment date, but processing can take several hours. If the payment is not in the account by midday, beneficiaries should check again before contacting Sassa.

How do I complete e-life certification?

E-life certification can be completed at any Sassa office, at certain Postbank branches or through the Sassa SRD website using a valid ID and cellphone number. Sassa has indicated that more digital channels will be rolled out during 2026.

Can I withdraw the full grant at once?

Yes. Sassa Gold Cards, Postbank accounts and commercial bank accounts allow beneficiaries to withdraw the full amount in one transaction, subject to the daily withdrawal limit on the card or account.
