Sassa payment dates 2026 — South African Rand banknotes

SASSA pays social grants in a three-day staggered cycle every month. Older Persons grants are paid first, followed by Disability grants the next business day, and Children’s grants from the third day. The cycle starts on the third of each month, or the next business day if the third falls on a weekend or public holiday.

SASSA grant payment order in 2026

SASSA splits monthly payments across three business days to manage volume at retailers, Post Office branches and ATMs. Each grant type has a fixed day in the rolling cycle.

Day 1 — Older Persons Grant. Recipients of the Old Age grant aged 60 and over are paid first. This includes the standard Older Persons Grant and the War Veterans Grant.

Day 2 — Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant. Recipients of disability and care dependency grants are paid on the next business day after Day 1.

Day 3 onwards — Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant and Grant in Aid. Children’s grants are paid from the third business day. Because more recipients fall in this category, payment continues across multiple days as the system processes each banking institution.

When SASSA payments start each month

Day 1 of the cycle falls on the third of the month, or on the next business day if the third is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday.

If the third is a Tuesday, payments run on the third, fourth and fifth. If the third is a Saturday, the cycle moves to the following Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. If the third coincides with a public holiday, the cycle starts on the next working day.

Bank transfers typically clear by mid-day on the scheduled payment day. Retailer collections at Pick n Pay, Boxer, USave, Shoprite and Checkers become available the same morning, as do Post Office collections.

When the SRD R350 grant is paid each month

The SRD R350 grant runs on a separate cycle from the standard grants. SRD payments are released after the monthly income verification process completes — typically from the 15th of the month onwards. Specific SRD payment dates for each month are published on srd.sassa.gov.za and on the applicant’s status page.

If your SRD status shows “Approved” or “Paid” but no funds have arrived, allow up to five working days, especially around banking holidays or month-end.

SASSA 2026 monthly payment dates

Exact day-1, day-2 and day-3 calendar dates for each month of 2026 are published by SASSA on sassa.gov.za under the payment dates section. The schedule is normally released a few weeks in advance of each calendar month and is also distributed through SASSA’s social media and SMS notifications to registered recipients.

Confirm the dates for your grant type each month before payment is due. Dates are not interchangeable between grant types.

What to do if your SASSA grant doesn’t arrive

If your scheduled payment date has passed and no funds have arrived, work through these steps:

  • For SRD R350: check your status at srd.sassa.gov.za using your ID and registered cellphone
  • For other grants: check your balance via USSD on *120*3210# or contact your local SASSA office
  • Call the SASSA toll-free number on 0800 60 10 11 if the status shows paid but no funds are visible in your account

Common reasons for missed payments include bank account verification issues, an income flag on the SRD means test, a Home Affairs database mismatch, or a death record incorrectly logged against your ID. Each must be resolved with the relevant department before the next payment cycle.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What date will SASSA pay this month?
A: Day 1 of every monthly cycle is the third of the month, or the next business day if the third is a weekend or public holiday. Confirm the exact date for your grant type on sassa.gov.za each month.

Q: When is the Older Persons Grant paid in 2026?
A: Day 1 of the cycle, which is the third of the month or the next business day. The Older Persons Grant is always paid before disability and children’s grants in the same month.

Q: When is the Child Support Grant paid each month?
A: From Day 3 of the monthly cycle. Because the Child Support Grant has the largest recipient base, payment continues over several working days as banks and retailers process the volume.

Q: Can SASSA pay grants on weekends?
A: No. SASSA payments only run on business days. If a payment date falls on a weekend, payment moves to the next working day.

Q: How long does a SASSA grant payment take to clear into my bank account?
A: Bank transfers clear by mid-day on the scheduled payment day. Retailer and Post Office collections are available the same morning.
