SASSA SRD R370 reconsideration application 2026: full guide
A SASSA SRD R370 reconsideration is the first step when your monthly SRD application has been declined. It is different from a formal appeal: reconsideration is handled by SASSA directly through the SRD portal, while a formal appeal goes to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals.
Reconsideration vs appeal
If your SRD application is declined, SASSA gives you 90 days from the decline date to lodge a reconsideration through srd.sassa.gov.za. The reconsideration asks SASSA to re-check the data behind the decision. If reconsideration also fails, only then do you escalate to the Independent Tribunal.
How to lodge a SASSA SRD R370 reconsideration
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za.
- Click Application for reconsideration.
- Enter your South African ID number and the cellphone number you used to apply.
- Receive an OTP via SMS and enter it.
- Select the month or months that were declined. Each declined month must be submitted separately.
- Provide the reason and any supporting information.
- Submit and save the reference number.
How long it takes
SASSA typically completes a reconsideration within 60 to 90 days. While the reconsideration is being processed you must keep reapplying each cycle so that your eligibility for the current month is not affected.
If the reconsideration is declined
You can then submit a formal appeal to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals. See our full guide on the SASSA SRD appeal process and the Independent Tribunal appeal.
