SASSA War Veterans Grant 2026: R2 420 monthly amount confirmed

The SASSA War Veterans Grant 2026 pays R2 420 per month following the April 2026 increase of R80 announced in the Budget. This is the highest-value permanent grant administered by SASSA.

Who qualifies

• You must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or recognised refugee.
• You must have served in the Second World War or the Korean War.
• You must be 60 years or older, or disabled.
• You must pass the means test on income and assets.
• You may not qualify if you are cared for in a state institution.

Documents typically required

• South African ID document
• Proof of war service
• Proof of marital status
• Proof of income and assets
• Bank account confirmation in your own name

SASSA may request additional documents based on your circumstances.

Payment date for June 2026

The War Veterans Grant pays on the same day as the Older Persons Grant. For June 2026, that is Tuesday, 2 June 2026.

How to apply

Apply in person at your nearest SASSA office. Applications cannot be submitted online. A SASSA officer will assist you to complete the application form.
