Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old high-school tutor from Torrance, California, has been charged with the attempted assassination of US President Donald Trump after a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on 25 April 2026. Trump was unhurt.

According to the US Department of Justice, Allen ran through a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton at about 8:40 p.m. ET with a long gun before discharging it. He faces three federal counts: attempt to assassinate the President, transporting firearms across state lines with intent to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. The FBI Washington Field Office and the US Secret Service are investigating.
