CAPE TOWN. – The SWD Eagirls, Leopards Women and Griffons Women will have everything to play for in the seventh and final league round of the Pick n Pay Women’s Super League 2 on Saturday, when the last two semi-final places are settled.

Defending champions the Hollywood Foundation Pumas Women have already booked a home semi-final after completing their league fixtures undefeated last weekend, while AVBOB Griquas Women will finish second and host the second semi-final in Kimberley regardless of Saturday’s outcomes. The real drama sits in Welkom, Kempton Park and George, where each of the hosts has a final push towards the play-offs.

Leopards Women need a win and favours in Kempton Park

The Leopards, fifth on 11 log points, travel up the N12 to Barnard Stadium knowing a bonus point win over the Valke Women may not be enough, but that defeat will certainly close out their season in disappointing fashion. The team from Potchefstroom need a win in Kempton Park and defeat for both the SWD Eagirls and Griffons Women.

The East Randers, sixth on eight points with a slim mathematical chance of sneaking into the play-offs, have been consistent this year, but their inability to play good rugby for 80 minutes has cost them dearly. Full Women’s Super League 2 standings and fixtures are carried on the SA Rugby website.

SWD Eagirls strong favourites at Outeniqua Park

The SWD Eagirls run out at Outeniqua Park as massive favourites against the Limpopo Blue Bulls Women. The visitors from the far north are out of play-off contention and must overcome the travel to George as well as find the confidence to win a match in a season that has yielded disappointing results.

The Eagirls, fourth on 12 log points, will be looking for a full house and plenty of running rugby can be anticipated in George on Saturday.

Griffons Women face a rampant Griquas side in Welkom

The Griffons Women will know the results of the other two matches by the time they play the second half against neighbours AVBOB Griquas at the Down Touch Investments Stadium. The Northern Free Staters are third on 14 log points but face a Griquas team that has been playing outstanding rugby over the last couple of weeks and knows how to win away from home, so the trip to Welkom should not bother them.

Knowing that they have already secured a home semi-final could detract from the Griquas effort, but such is their momentum that only an extraordinary effort from the Griffons will secure the result that keeps the hosts inside the top four.
