GAUTENG. – Advocate Avinash Ramapararat (45), Sergeant Herman Mnguni (46), and Constable Abdul Shaik (35) appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on two charges of extortion and two charges of corruption. All three were released on bail of R5 000 each, with the condition that they will not interfere with the investigation or state witnesses.
Lumka Mahanjana, spokesperson for the NPA, stated that Ramapararat is a prosecutor at the Pretoria specialized commercial unit (SCCU), and both police officers are stationed at the Wierdabrug police station. They are facing two charges of extortion involving R100 000 and R300 000, and two charges of corruption involving R100 000 and R300 000.
The case has been postponed for further investigation to February 17, 2025.
