GAUTENG. – Kenneth Chibuzor, Stephen Mahlakwane Sekhukhune and Danial Anthony Moat appeared in the Kempton Park magistrate's court in connection with a smartwatch belonging to Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo. Her body was found on 12 September in Rhodesfield. The state alleges that the smartwatch was obtained within 24 hours of Moselakgomo being last seen alive on 9 September, and was subsequently sold several times.

Magaboke Mohlatlole, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, said the state alleges that Chibuzor, who operates a second-hand goods shop in Kempton Park, bought the watch for R900 from an unknown person without recording the required identity and transaction details. He allegedly sold it on 10 September to Sekhukhune, who later linked the device to his Gmail account after Moselakgomo's profile information and settings were erased. Sekhukhune allegedly then sold the smartwatch for R4 000 to Moat, who according to the state advertised it on social media and sold it for the same amount to a fourth person.

Chibuzor is standing trial on charges related to second-hand goods act violations, money laundering and theft, with alternative charges relating to possession or receiving of allegedly stolen goods. Sekhukhune and Moat are standing trial on charges of money laundering and theft, with alternative charges of possession or receiving of stolen goods.

The case was postponed to 19 October for Chibuzor's bail application. The court also ordered that his immigration status be checked, as he is a Nigerian citizen. The fourth person who bought the smartwatch was not charged due to insufficient evidence.
