EASTERN CAPE. — Police in Jeffreys Bay are making an urgent appeal to the public for help identifying the surprising remains of an unknown deceased person after a small coffin containing a bag of ashes was found on the beach.

Captain Marius McCarthy, police spokesperson, says a member of the community found the coffin on 17 September on Jeffreys Bay beach. The name "Llwelyn Felix" was inscribed on it. The coffin and ashes have been taken into police custody while an investigation is conducted to trace the family or establish the origin of the remains.

Anyone with information that could help identify the deceased, or who knows how the coffin came to be on the beach, is asked to contact Jeffreys Bay police.
