This month, we turn our focus to Hannes Fouché, a seasoned farmer from Hertzogville in the Free State, whose deep-rooted love for farming and family embodies everything the Beefmaster Group stands for.
Family and Roots
Hannes and his wife have been married for 17 years and are proud parents to four beautiful children. His journey in farming began early, riding alongside his father across the fields. “The love for the land and animals has been a part of me since I was little,” he shares.

Hannes has been walking a journey with Beefmaster for over 20 years, making him a familiar and respected name in our network. What drives him? “Reaping the fruits of hard work,” he says. “When the calves run around and play, when the harvest comes in from the fields – then you know the struggle was worth it.”
Farming Practices Rooted in Wisdom
Hannes runs a mixed farming operation, combining crop and cattle farming. This integrated approach allows for efficient use of resources, especially when cattle graze on maize residue after harvest. He believes strongly in being personally involved on the farm and emphasises the importance of adaptability and asking for advice.
“No farm can be successful without reliable help,” he notes. “And nature is the biggest challenge – you can’t plan for it. A successful year is always a blessing.”
Advice for Aspiring Farmers
When asked what advice he’d give to newcomers, Hannes offers timeless wisdom:“Be involved. Build good relationships. Just keep courage. Trust in God.”
He also highlights the power of community:
“Unity is very important. We rely on each other. No one can do it alone.”
