CAPE TOWN. – The City of Cape Town long service medals were awarded for the first time this week, honouring 112 staff members who have completed 30 years or more of service in the enforcement environment.

Who received the City of Cape Town long service medals
Metro Police Chief Wayne Le Roux and Law Enforcement Inspector Willem Boonzaier led the list of recipients, each recognised for 43 years of service. Traffic warden Adriana Conyers led the female contingent with 36 years.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis joined the ceremony and commended the officers for their commitment to the people of Cape Town and for careers defined by service, responsibility and sacrifice.
A first for the metro
The City has a long tradition of celebrating service across all departments, but medals for staff who have worn the badge for more than three decades are new.
“This event comes just weeks after our annual Remembrance Day Service where we pay tribute to enforcement and emergency services staff members who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Pausing in recognition and remembrance is the least we can do for the thousands of staff members who put their lives on the line in service of Cape Town,” Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, told The Daily Pod.
