Jason Kilian, ‘n bekende motorfietsryer van Pretoria en Modderbok Adventures, is steeds kritiek maar stabiel ná ’n ernstige ongeluk buite Carnarvon. Die ongeluk het tydens Epic Ride 2026, ’n 4 800 km-lange fondsinsamelingsrit vir die Hero Burn Foundation plaasgevind en die rit vir Jason beëindig. Dié organisasie het nou ‘n fondsinsamelingsprofiel vir Jason geopen.
Jason is aanvanklik ná die ongeluk met ‘n kopbesering, nekfrakture en komplikasies met sy longe gediagnoseer. Sy rugmurg het nie seergekry nie. Hy was eers in ‘n plaaslike hospitaal, waarna hy vir verdere spesialisbehandeling na ‘n ander fasiliteit gevlieg is.
Volgens die Hero Burn Foundation word Jason tans in ‘n intensiewesorgeenheid behandel, terwyl hy volledig gesedeer en op ’n asemhalingstoestel is om sy longe te ondersteun. Hy is stabiel en dokters hou hom noukeurig dop. ’n Bronkoskopie is vir vandag beplan om moontlike komplikasies in sy longe aan te spreek.
Jason se doel met die rit was om R250 000 vir brandslagoffers in te samel. Die laaste gedeelte van die fondsinsamelingsrit en bewusmaking is deur Jaco Prinsloo voortgesit. Prinsloo het daarvoor van Melkbosstrand na Carnarvon gery. Die Hero Burn Foundation moedig die publiek aan om steeds by te dra tot die fondsinsameling, wat brandslagoffers en hul families ondersteun. En veral om nou by te dra op die backabuddy-profiel wat hulle vir Jason begin het.

Update on Jason – Jason remains critical but stable. While those words may sometimes sound simple, in his current circumstances they are very encouraging. He is receiving intensive medical care and his body continues to respond well to the support he is receiving. His vital signs remain stable, which is a positive and encouraging sign. Jason is currently deeply sedated and on mechanical ventilation to support his breathing. This allows his body — and especially his lungs — to rest and recover while the medical team manages his condition very carefully. His lungs remain an area the doctors are monitoring closely, and the team is planning to perform a bronchoscopy tomorrow – This procedure allows the doctors to look directly into the airways of the lungs to check for mucus, blood, inflammation, or infection, and if necessary remove secretions or blockages. Despite the concern around his lungs, Jason’s respiratory status is currently encouraging. The oxygen support delivered through the ventilator has already been reduced from 80% earlier today to 65%, while his oxygen saturation remains excellent at around 98% — a very positive sign that his body is responding well to treatment.
Jason is being cared for in a specialised ICU room where temperature and environmental conditions are carefully controlled, helping the medical team maintain the most stable setting for his recovery. Dr. Thomas has explained that Jason will likely remain deeply sedated for at least the next two days before the team would even consider to gradually lighten the sedation – depending on how he responds. This is currently considered the safest and most appropriate approach, allowing his body — particularly his lungs — the time needed to recover. For now, mechanical ventilation remains the best way to support and protect his lungs while they heal, and the medical team continues to monitor him very closely.
