JOHANNESBURG. – The Hollard Daredevil Run has handed over R1.2 million raised through its 2025 campaign to the Cancer Association of South Africa and the Prostate Cancer Foundation, with the company officially launching its 2026 campaign at its Parktown headquarters yesterday.
Now in its 17th year, the campaign encourages South African men to run 5km in purple speedos to raise awareness about prostate and testicular cancer. The funds support PSA screening programmes, awareness campaigns and patient support services across the country.
“Every rand raised goes directly to awareness, screening and support,” said Hazel Chimhandamba, Group Chief Marketing Officer at Hollard. “Behind all the laughs is a serious mission: getting more men to check in on their health.”
Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in South African men. One in eight men will be diagnosed in their lifetime, with Black African men facing 60 percent higher risk. Early screening through a simple PSA blood test can detect elevated protein levels before symptoms appear.
The 2026 event returns to Zoo Lake in Johannesburg on Friday, 23 October at 3pm. Registrations open on 1 July through Ticketpro at R200 per entry, which includes a purple speedo. Participants elsewhere can register to run in their own neighbourhoods.
