WES-KAAP. – Calib de Kock (17) het Dinsdag in Seepunt gesterf toe hy met sy fiets geoefen en in ‘n oop motordeur in Beachstraat vasgery het.
Western Province Cycling Association het die nuus van sy afsterwe op sosiale media gedeel. Hy was verbonde aan die Phoenix Cycling Club. De Kock was ‘n gr. 11-leerder van Hoërskool Bonteheuwel.
Paramedici het op die toneel gewerk om hom te stabiliseer. Hy is daarna na die Christiaan Barnard-hospitaal vervoer waar hy aan sy beserings gesterf het.
Lucia Raubenheimer het hierdie kommentaar op die sosialemediaplasing gemaak: “So sorry to hear this young gentlemen passed away, I was sitting in my car waiting for someone across the road when I saw the accident yesterday, phoned the ambulance, prayed for the entire hour the paramedics were busy with him and hoped he made a full recovery, did not know it was so bad. They seriously need to do something about a bike lane, this is devastating news

A tragic accident that will be devastating for his family and so many affected by this.
“An appeal to all road users, not limited to Sea Point but everywhere. Cyclists are one of the most vulnerable road users, we need to please be extra cautious on the roads and take a moment to check and check again before opening a door, changing a lane, making a turn. Please let’s slow it down, our driving but also our actions to pause and check what is happening in the road around us. My thoughts are also with the driver of the vehicle who I am sure would do anything to get that split second back and will also be devastated by this incident.”

It is with a deep, exceptionally deep sense of sadness that I have been informed of the senseless death of a young Bonteheuwel Legend.
Caleb de Kock loved his community, loved his family, and loved cycling.
In a tragic bicycle accident, Caleb lost his life. However, his tenacity, his relentlessness, and his pursuit for success saw him overcome many challenges to pursue a sport that gave him life and joy.
My deepest condolences go out to his family, his mom, our community, and the cycling fraternity.
While sadness overwhelms us, Caleb’s legacy gives us hope, hope that more young people will choose the path he had and be relentless in their pursuit to achieve success.
May Caleb Rest in Eternal Peace.
