Hi everyone, bear with the English again please.

It was a huge surprise to walk into the hospital yesterday to see that Rudi had been taken off the ventilator. I have spoken to him this morning, he is in a lot of pain but the Docters are exceptional and want to get him going as soon as possible. Which comes to my thought of the day.

What I have appreciated, is that the team of specialists looking after Rudi, actually care. They take time to listen, they are honest and we are also aware of the risks that we are facing in the next few days…..what can go wrong and how they intend to deal with them if it does happen.

It has also surprised me how many medical professionals have been talking to us about God’s will.

In the last few months, Rudi and I have re-evaluated our Faith and moved closer to God. We have both walked a wonky path, believing but not necessarily practicing the actual ACT of being a Christian. I was born into an Afrikaans family, but my parents sent me to a Catholic all girls school. The Afrikaans church was so judgmental that my parents basically had to leave their church, and since then we have been Methodists. Bear with me…….there is a “moral of the story” coming.

Friends of my parents were horrified that my folks wanted me to become a nun at the age of 5……..this is the ignorance and the biggest fault of us Christians. Because we were in the apartheid era, our school accepted all religions and races….and we were taught about Jesus but we were also taught to listen to other’s beliefs.

Now, comes my dilemma. To me, being a true Christian is about walking the talk. You would be horrified if you had to read some of the messages we receive (that I delete). before I block these people, I usually just go check out who they are…..and 90% of the time, it is someone who has a Christian quote or picture right at the top of their timeline, and I stare in disbelieve, that the terrible comment came from a God-fearing person.

There are many branches of the Christian church…..from the straight and narrow to the happy clappy, and as long as that works for you, go for it BUT stop judging the person that is attending a church that is slightly different. I can honestly say, that I have in my lifetime, only ever met four people that DID walk the talk. You cannot be a Christian and judge others or talk behind their back.

Rudi has recently become a newborn Christian, and he has been very enthusiastic about the Bible, and trying to turn away from his past and share his experiences. He then had a visitor that came around and he basically told him that if he does not support ABC, then he is not a Christian. This obviously then made Rudi doubt himself but the question I ask is…..why would one Christian do that to another Christian? Sure, we are all human, and we are entitled to our own opinions but I think a lot of people need to go do some real soul searching, and ask yourself if you are a TRUE Christian.

We live in a very confused society and in a world filled with turmoil, why are we making each other more miserable, instead of standing together and helping each other. A complete stranger came up to me in the corridor in ICU and just asked if she could give me a hug, because I looked like I need it. That is what we should be concentrating on, instead of commenting if someone’s dress is too short or if the man’s hair is too long. We seem to be losing our way and we don’t even realise it.

If there is one bit of advice I can give you, is go watch the movie called “The Shack” on Netflix. About half way, I thought…this is a bit “Hallmark” but towards the end, I was wailing. Finally, someone had somehow managed to show me what being a Christian was (and what was lacking in MY soul). Do yourself a favour, go watch it and then look in your soul again, and let us just try be nicer to each other…….. it could just save someone’s life and make you a happier person.

Bless you all for reading this, and may you have a wonderful weekend.

Suzette xx
