A Pretoria golf course robbery turned violent on Monday afternoon when two armed suspects allegedly entered the course in Pretoria-West and demanded money and mobile phones from players. One of the players is alleged to have drawn a firearm and shot one of the suspects before the second suspect fled the scene. Police are investigating an attempted murder.

According to a statement from the Pretoria Golf Club, two suspects entered the Pretoria-West course in broad daylight and confronted players, demanding cash and mobile phones. The robbery escalated rapidly when one of the players is alleged to have produced a firearm and shot one of the suspects. The wounded suspect was taken from the scene by ambulance to hospital. The second suspect fled before police arrived.

Capt. Johan van Dyk, the district police spokesperson, confirmed police are investigating a case of attempted murder. He said two men allegedly entered the course and threatened players with a firearm. One of the people on the course allegedly produced a firearm and shot one of the suspects, after which the second suspect fled. By the time police arrived, the wounded man had already been removed.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. The Pretoria Golf Club has assured members and visitors that the safety of everyone on the course remains its highest priority. Security services have been reviewed and reinforced where necessary.
