A SASSA new card application in 2026 means getting the Postbank Black Card, the card now being issued to all SASSA beneficiaries who do not receive their grant by direct bank deposit.
Background
According to Postbank’s announcement on 24 April 2026, the final phase of the Gold-to-Black Card replacement drive began on 29 April 2026. Beneficiaries still holding a SASSA Gold Card have until 31 August 2026 to migrate.
Where to collect
Postbank issues the Black Cards directly, not SASSA. The card is collected free of charge at Postbank service points located inside major retailers nationwide. To find the nearest service point, contact Postbank on 0800 53 54 55 or visit www.postbank.co.za.
What to bring
- A valid South African ID document or a temporary ID
- Your existing SASSA Gold Card if you are replacing one
No forms are required for the collection itself.
How long it takes
The Black Card is activated immediately when issued. Any balance on a Gold Card transfers automatically to the new card.
