In the pursuit of eternal youth, people go to extreme lengths. From expensive skincare routines to invasive surgeries, the obsession with looking young is pervasive in our society. Celebrities, in particular, feel the pressure to maintain youthful appearances in a world where age often equals invisibility.

Demi Moore, recently won her first Golden Globe for her role in The Substance. Her inspiring speech, however, struck a chord beyond the world of entertainment. “In these moments when we don’t think we’re smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful enough… or basically just not enough, I had a woman say to me, ‘Just know you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick,’” Moore said. Her words highlight the emotional toll the beauty standards of our society impose on us all.

As society pushes the idea that youth is synonymous with beauty, many turn to drastic measures to meet these unrealistic expectations. Botox, facelifts and even extreme diets have become the norm for some. While these procedures may offer short-term results, they often come at a high emotional and financial cost.

In the quest for youth, it’s important to remember that true beauty lies in self-acceptance. While taking care of yourself is crucial, the idea of being enough should not revolve around how we look. Moore’s speech serves as a powerful reminder that our worth goes far beyond the surface and perhaps the best way to stay young is by embracing the wisdom that comes with age.
