I wish to extend my deepest and most sincere gratitude to the Bonnievale Police Station and the Swellendam Police Station for their extraordinary teamwork in bringing my therapy service dog, Hunt, safely back home.
For those who understand the bond with a therapy service dog, you know they are not simply pets—they are lifelines, companions, and an irreplaceable part of one’s very being. When Hunt was taken, I feared I would never see him again. The journey to Swellendam felt endless, and the ordeal of confronting those men was like something out of a James Bond film. Yet through every moment of fear and uncertainty, I was never alone.
Constable Hansen and Constable Slingers stood by me unwaveringly. Their quick thinking, calm guidance, and constant reassurance gave me strength when I had none. They placed Hunt’s safety and my wellbeing at the forefront without ever needing to say it aloud. When Hunt finally saw me and rushed into my arms, one of the officers remarked, “Ma’am, this child is unmistakably yours.” That moment will stay with me forever.
Tonight, as Hunt sleeps peacefully at my feet, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. My admiration goes out to Constable Hansen and Constable Slingers—two men who embody what it truly means to serve. If I could, I would recommend them for the highest honor, for today they were not just policemen, they were HEROES.
To the teams of Bonnievale and Swellendam: thank you for your courage, your dedication, and your calling. You reminded me that policing is not just a job—it is a vocation written into the DNA of those who choose to protect and serve.
