Werner de Jager, die wewenaar van wyle ds. Liezel de Jager van Amanzimtoti, is vroeër vandag in die Westville korrektiewe sentrum in KZN dood. Hy het tereggestaan op aanklag van haar moord.
Action Society het medelye met die dogters van die egpaar uitgespreek.
Ds. Liezel de Jager is op 13 Oktober 2021 voor haar huis vermoor. De Jager is vir haar moord in hegtenis geneem en die saak moes weer op 10 Mei voorkom.
Ian Cameron het gesê: “Reports are coming in that Werner De Jager, accused of and awaiting trial for the premeditated murder of his wife, Liezel De Jager almost two and a half years ago has died of an alleged overdose in the correctional facility where he was held in Durban, KZN.”

Action Society learned with mixed emotions about the death of Werner de Jager earlier today. De Jager stood accused of the murder of beloved Amanzimtoti Reverend Liezel de Jager, his wife.
“Our hearts go out to Liezel’s young daughters who now lost both parents, and we pray for strength for her parents, Henk and Salomé, who are their guardians since Liezel’s death,” said Action Society spokesperson Juanita du Preez.
Yesterday marked two and a half years since Liezel’s murder on 13 October 2021. She was murdered in front of her house after a morning run, and the perpetrator (or perpetrator as rumour leads us to believe) tried to make it appear as if the attack was of a sexual nature. The case stood still until Action Society started applying pressure, and the National Cold Case Unit under Brigadier Gininda finally took over the investigation. Shortly after, De Jager was arrested. He was scheduled to appear in court again on 10 May 2024.
“We will continue to seek justice for Liezel. We owe it to her daughters, family, and friends to see this case through and getting the answers and justice Liezel deserves,” said Du Preez.
