Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service marked International Firefighters Day at the Wesfleur Sportsground in Atlantis on Saturday, 9 May 2026. The annual event gave residents a close-up look at the department’s staff and equipment.

Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service marks International Firefighters Day
The commemoration opened with a cavalcade through Atlantis followed by exhibitions, live rescue displays, sport and games. Visitors met the women and men of the City’s Fire and Rescue Service.
JP Smith salutes firefighters’ bravery
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, thanked supporters. “Thank you to everyone who came to support our staff members who run towards danger without a second thought. We recognise their bravery and selflessness, and salute their dedication and teamwork. Let’s honour them by doing our bit to help reduce the risk of fires,” Smith said.
