VRYSTAAT. – Staats- en privaat ambulansdienste in Bloemfontein word deur ernstige uitdagings in die gesig gestaar. Wanneer pasiënte na die Pelonomi Provinsiale Hospitaal vervoer word, moet sommige ambulanse glo tot nege uur of langer buite die hospitaal in rye wag, omdat daar glo geen beskikbare beddens is nie.
Priority Care Ambulance Service sê in ‘n Facebook-plasing ambulanse wag dikwels in rye van tot 10 voertuie. Pelonomi is tans die enigste werkende provinsiale hospitaal in die gebied, wat beteken dat ambulanse geen ander opsie het as om soontoe te gaan nie. Die wagtende ambulanse is dan buite diens en kan nie aandag aan noodgevalle gee nie. Volgens dié diens duur die situasie alreeds vir maande sonder dat daar enige verbetering of oplossing is.

In Bloemfontein, Free State Ambulances from both state and private services are being faced with a nightmare when having to transport patients to Pelenomi Government Hospital as they are made to wait outside in queues of sometimes up to 10 ambulances in a queue for periods of up to or more than 9 hours as the doctors and nurses simply say there are no beds available and the ambulances have nowhere else to go with the patients as this is currently the only operational provincial hospital in the area. These delays cause a major financial burden on private services who get caught up in the delays and furthermore a major service delivery burden to the community as there are simply no ambulances available to attend emergency calls whilst being caught up in the queues. This has now been going on now for a few months with no improvements or solutions.
