Cape Ballet Africa has announced additional performances of Swan Lake at Montecasino’s Teatro due to high ticket demand for the Johannesburg season.

The company will now stage extra shows on Saturday, 22 August at 13:00 and 17:30, and Sunday, 23 August at 13:00, in addition to the initial run beginning Friday, 7 August 2026.

Choreography and Direction

The production features choreography and stage direction by Elena Glurjidze, a Georgian-born, London-based former principal ballerina with the English National Ballet. Glurjidze appeared in her final performance as Odette/Odile in Derek Deane’s Swan Lake at the London Coliseum in January 2015, in a role she first danced with that company in 2002.

Glurjidze founded the Masters of Ballet Academy in London, where many of her students have graduated to full-time training at prestigious institutions including the Royal Ballet Upper School, Vaganova Academy and the Bolshoi Academy. She has received international recognition for promoting Georgian culture, receiving a State Ministry of Georgian Affairs Certificate of Honour.

Debbie Turner, CEO and Artistic Director of Cape Ballet Africa, leads the company through this production. Cape Ballet Africa seeks to reimagine how ballet can look in Africa, blending classical ballet discipline with South African cultural heritage while building a proudly African organisation.

Creative Team

Costumes are designed by Marcel Meyer with sets by Michael Mitchell. This is the same team that created the designs for Cape Ballet Africa’s Naledi Award-nominated production of The Nutcracker.

Youth Day Discount and Tickets

To celebrate Youth Day, Cape Ballet Africa is offering up to 40% discount on selected seats and performances from 11 June for a limited time only. The special offer aims to introduce young audiences to classical ballet and live theatre.
