GAUTENG. – Stefan van Niekerk en Rochelle Botha wat tereggestaan het vir die moord en mishandeling van Chevonne Rusch (2) is in die Johannesburg-hooggeregshof tot lewenslange tronkstraf gevonnis.
Juanita du Preez, woordvoerder vir Action Society, sê Rochelle Botha en Stefan van Niekerk is lewenslange vonnisse en meer vir aanklagte teen hulle opgelê.
Botha het huilende aangedui sy gaan appelleer, wat op 22 Mei aangehoor sal word.
Die kleuter (2) se lewe is kortgeknip toe sy gedurende Mei 2021 doodgeslaan is. Tydens die verhoor het ‘n patoloog getuig sy het 41 beserings gehad en is as gevolg van bloeding op die brein ná ‘n kopbesering oorlede.
Die ander kinders in die huis was ook mishandel. Van Niekerk en Botha is in November 2023 skuldig bevind.
“Judge Africa stated in the Johannesburg High Court that the degree and extent of the abuse, the brutality of the assault, their neglect in providing medical assistance, and the utter lack of remorse shown influenced her decision to deviate from the minimum prescribed sentence.”
“This coming Sunday will mark the two year anniversary of her death. It has taken a very long time to get to this point, and we hope that these two monsters never see the light of day again. However nothing will ever bring little Chevonne back, nor can anything take away the pain and suffering she endured during her short life,” sê du Preez.
