WES-KAAP.

THIS IS NOT AI- it happened on Friday 23rd.
Another Leopard dies in the Western Cape.
After terrible 2025 for leopards in the Western Cape, the year has started no differently. We were informed today of another Leopard death under rather bizarre circumstances.
Reportedly a short circuit in the electricity supply occurred overnight in the Nuy Valley, Worcester, and although no clear animal tracks could be identified it is reported that a scuffle occurred at the bottom of the electrical pole (as is evident in the tracks), and this Leopard obviously tried to scale the pole and electrocuted itself in the process. This is not a sequence of events that we have witnessed before. It is suspected that either the Leopard pursued some prey species or another territorial Leopard, or a skirmish with a caracal that resulted in his tragic demise.
At least in this instance no human foul play is suspected.
He was a healthy male. We will collect genetic samples and more morphological data.
